St. Kilda Town Hall Forecourt Table and Seating
Urban Initiatives Landscape Architects and Andrew Brophy, the City of Port Phillip Landscape Architect at the time, developed the St. Kilda Town Hall forecourt as an outdoor space for council staff and the general public. The area required a grand outdoor table and seating. Andrew was engaged to assist with the advancement of a design Andrew Brophy had conceived.
Working closely with him, Andrew developed the design and produced working drawings from which the steelwork was fabricated. The seats and 4.5 metre long tabletop, made from large iron bark boards were also manufactured and fitted by Andrew. The arrangement and length of the seats around the table allows for a number of separate groups or a large gathering of people, including wheelchair access.
“Over the past fifteen years, Urban Initiatives has exclusively engaged Andrew Gibbs Furniture Design for specialist input in the design of customised street furniture elements. Andrew’s highly refined design skill, combined with his extensive understanding of ergonomics and his technical knowledge has added significant value to many of our projects. Right from the beginning of each project we find Andrew’s involvement and contribution to be invaluable and significantly improve the built outcomes.”
